NHS, cost containment and shower head replacement schemes


Today we saw the NHS back on the BBC news - only to hear more of the same. Cutting costs seems to be the highest priority.

With so many recently budgets cut, it becomes more difficult to justify the introduction of something that might be perceived as a more expensive option when it comes to quarterly deep clean and descale of shower heads and hoses.

It takes a lot of careful research to calculate with accuracy the real cost of these procedures. And of course these costs calculations do not account for risks incurred for staff and sometimes for patient's themselves as well.

Below is a little chart of a real cost calculation from a real NHS hospital somewhere in England. What the results show is actually surprising:
